BREAKING THE SURFACE / 24 X 30 / FRAMED
The elusive transient orca that come into Tofino are the original reason I moved from Ontario out to the coast in 2004. I’ll never forget watching Free Willy as a kid and knowing…I mean with absolute into-my-bones certainty that I would live amongst orca one day. The encounters I’ve had with them over the years have been some of the most memorable and peak experiences of my life. This image was inspired by local Tofino photography Owen Crosby and to me, speaks to the thin barrier that exists between theirs and our world…this is ‘BREAKING THE SURFACE’.
